Overview
The Laurent Ferrier Sport Auto is a new addition to the collection and serves as a tribute to the remarkable racing adventures of the brand's founders, Laurent Ferrier and François Servanin. The watch captures the essence of their dramatic finish at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans, embodying the excitement and emotions of such a monumental event.
Design
Inspired by the very sensations of motor racing—the vibration of the wheel, the roar of the engine, the screech of the tires, the feel of leather gloves, and the rush of speed—the Sport Auto aims to stir emotions. Its design masterfully balances firm and rounded curves, with counter-curves adding to a harmonious and sporty silhouette.
The Case
The case, made from grade 5 titanium, has a diameter of 41.5 mm. In a creative play between various components, a contrasting bezel with softer lines complements the tonneau-shaped middle case, evolved from the brand's iconic Square case. The case features different finishes—circular satin-brushed on the bezel and mirror-polished on the flanks, contrasted by a vertical satin-brushed middle case.
Dial and Display
The domed sapphire crystal provides an expansive view of a dial imbued with LAURENT FERRIER's aesthetic. The dial's various shades of blue, set off by an opaline finish, lend it a soft, powdery appearance. White gold drop-shaped hands and indexes, filled with green Super-LumiNova, add tone to the dial. A snailed small seconds dial at 6 o'clock features powdered grey markers, matching the logo and central cross.
The Movement
Inside is the LF 270.01 calibre, the Maison’s second automatic calendar movement, exclusively developed by LAURENT FERRIER. This movement, a perfect blend of a tribute to the micro-rotor and natural escapement with a sporty demeanor, is entirely designed, assembled, decorated, and adjusted in-house. It features a unidirectional ball-bearing micro-rotor with a 950 platinum oscillating weight, offering over 72 hours of power reserve.
On The Wrist
The Sport Auto strikes an ideal balance between elegance and sportiness. The case and the fully integrated bracelet, both in grade 5 titanium, exhibit vertical satin finishes that contrast with polished flanks. The beveled edges of the center links also receive a polished finish, enhancing the watch's mechanical aspect. This timepiece is water-resistant up to 120 meters and features a screw-down crown, ensuring comfort and durability for everyday wear.
Final Thoughts
The Laurent Ferrier Sport Auto stands as a magnificent fusion of sporting spirit and watchmaking elegance. Its meticulous craftsmanship and attention to the finest details make it a remarkable piece in the realm of horology, resonating with the brand's racing heritage.
